The Worship Ministry Team exists to lead the Body of Living Hope in understanding and practicing the worship of our God, and we need you!

I'm in Seattle, on a mission trip as I'm writing this article and have seen some very different things than I normally do. People are different here. There is a tremendous amount of beauty here. The weather hasn't gone above 85. It really is nice. One thing we can't help but notice is the amount of dog’s people have. They take them everywhere too and pay a lot of attention to them but not to the other people around them. It's called the Seattle Freeze. Seattle is a very "progressive" city. The people tout their tolerance of nearly every belief. Pot shops are all around and so are rainbow flags. They are looking for the gods of this world to bring them peace and happiness. That's why they are always looking for something new to worship.

A couple months ago I wrote about how I have been reading Counterfeit God's by Tim Keller. I'm still reading it and going back over some of the things I've already read. The story of Jacob falling in love with Rachel and ending up with Leah at first (Genesis 29) is one that Keller teaches from. Here's a passage from it:

“We learn that through all of life there runs a ground note of cosmic disappointment. You are never going to lead a wise life until you understand that. Jacob said, " If I can just get Rachel, everything will be okay." And goes to bed with the one who he thinks is Rachel, and literally, the Hebrew says, "in the morning, behold, it was Leah" (Genesis 29:25). One commentator noted about this verse, “This is a miniature of our disillusionment, experienced from Eden onwards.” What does that mean? With all due respect to this woman (from whom we have much to learn), it means that no matter what we put our hopes in, in the morning, it is always Leah, never Rachel.”

It's the same for us. What are we disillusioned about? What/who do we feel will finally give us happiness and love? Jesus is the only one that can fill that void. Worship Him alone. - Eric
