The Worship Ministry Team exists to lead the Body of Living Hope in understanding and practicing the worship of our God, and we need you!

“When anything in life is an absolute requirement for your happiness and self-worth, it is essentially an ‘idol,’ something you are actually worshiping. When such a thing is threatened, your anger is absolute. Your anger is actually the way the idol keeps you in its service, in its chains. Therefore, if you find that, despite all the efforts to forgive, your anger and bitterness cannot subside, you may need to look deeper and ask, ‘What am I defending? What is so important that I cannot live without?’ It may be that, until some inordinate desire is identified and confronted, you will not be able to master your anger.”

Timothy J. Keller, Counterfeit Gods: The Empty Promises of Money, Sex, and Power, and the Only Hope that Matters

What or who do you worship? I’ve been reading this book by Tim Keller. Butch has talked about it for years. I don’t like it. It hurts to pry away deep-seated sin and idolatry. People around you don’t like it because they’ve gotten used to that being part of who you are. And when you start to allow the Great Physician to remove the things that you put so much love into our flesh tries to hold on and fight it. Again, I ask you, who or what do you worship? Is it your family? Is it your money or job? Fashion? Hobbies? Entertainment? Education?

Keller defines an idol as: “Anything more important to you than God, anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, anything you seek to give you what only God can give.” Does that make more sense? Is your mind thinking about those things that take over your life? Maybe you get angry when one of those things fails. It’s a pretty sure sign of something being an idol.

God wants all of us. Exodus 20:3-6 “You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

Why would I need to put my love in anything or anyone but the Lord? Is there some idolatry going on in your life that needs to be dealt with? Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity love and power. Come Ye sinners. - Eric
